Irish/British national, resident in Japan for over 30 years. Background in linguistics, with subsequent experience in senior management at a major eikaiwa chain. Works across corporate training, private coaching, exam preparation, translation, editing, and consulting on English usage in product names, policy, and formal correspondence.
Corporate training clients have included Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Bank of America, Bain & Company, BCG, PwC, Nomura Securities, Keidanren, Mitsui Real Estate, Takeda Pharmaceutical, and Suntory. Works with both individuals and organizations, in Japanese and English.
Many clients, including senior executives with long professional histories in English, feel some initial discomfort using the language in a professional setting. This is normal, and usually fades quickly once the work is underway — most people are surprised how relaxed the sessions end up being.
To be honest, in practice, sessions tend to be relaxed and fun — most of the stress disappears after the first few minutes, and what's left is just a normal conversation between two people. I study and teach communication skills because I like people, and I like learning about people, hearing about their lives, and helping them with the things they struggle with. Whether that's how to socialize with clients, how to explain a technical problem, or how to pronounce English better, I can help.
日本語でのご連絡も歓迎です。 Feel free to get in touch in Japanese — I'm happy to correspond either way.
